The Movies That Got Me Through 2020

With 2020 in the rearview mirror I’m looking back on the media that got me through it. Unfortunately it was a hard year for theaters, with reports that the biggest chain in the United States AMC needs $750 million to stay in business in 2021. With how things are going with covid that seems unlikely which is disappointing. AMC A-List was a great service, in 2018 and 2019 I saw at least one movie a week, I really took that for granted. I love going to the movies, the last two films I saw in theaters were Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Little Woman, one of those two was truly great while the other was Star Wars. Making the transition to home only viewing was different, I bought a project and tried my best to recreate the feeling. To be honest I really enjoy having my own makeshift theater, but it isn’t the same. So without further ado here are the movies that got me through 2020. 

The Television Shows That Got Me Through 2020

 Yesterday I covered the video games that helped me get through 2020 and now it’s time for the TV shows that played in the background of our world descending into chaos. To be clear this blog won’t be about TV shows that premiered in 2020, the only criteria was that I watched it this past year. So let’s get this list started with a show literally everyone in the world already watched and loved when it was running except for me. 

The Last of Us Franchise Helped Me Through 2020

Let’s not mince words, 2020 was an awful year. Outside of the super rich people who gained billions more while normal people were forced to deal the full brunt of a deadly pandemic anyone would agree. The one thing 2020 was good for was consuming media. Yes if it weren’t for Television shows, video games, and movies we all probably would have gone stir crazy, well stir crazier than most of us have already gone. So over the next few days I’ll be chronicling the media that got me through 2020. First Up Video Games. 

Video Games: The Last of Us Franchise 

I started my journey through the fascinating but morbid world created by Naughty Dog years ago on the PS3. However in the middle of my playthrough I noticed a deal at Gamestop offering $200 off a PS4 if you trade in a PS3. So I went to my local Gamestop, which is no longer open in present day of course, and traded my PS3 in for a PS4 with a The Last of Us digital copy included. I rushed home, downloaded the game and for some reason just never played it. Instead I listened to my friends and family implore me to finish the game, but having to play through what I already played through seemed like such a large task that it formed a mental block.
