With 2020 in the rearview mirror I’m looking back on the media that got me through it. Unfortunately it was a hard year for theaters, with reports that the biggest chain in the United States AMC needs $750 million to stay in business in 2021. With how things are going with covid that seems unlikely which is disappointing. AMC A-List was a great service, in 2018 and 2019 I saw at least one movie a week, I really took that for granted. I love going to the movies, the last two films I saw in theaters were Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Little Woman, one of those two was truly great while the other was Star Wars. Making the transition to home only viewing was different, I bought a project and tried my best to recreate the feeling. To be honest I really enjoy having my own makeshift theater, but it isn’t the same. So without further ado here are the movies that got me through 2020.

The Television Shows That Got Me Through 2020
Yesterday I covered the video games that helped me get through 2020 and now it’s time for the TV shows that played in the background of our world descending into chaos. To be clear this blog won’t be about TV shows that premiered in 2020, the only criteria was that I watched it this past year. So let’s get this list started with a show literally everyone in the world already watched and loved when it was running except for me.

The Last of Us Franchise Helped Me Through 2020
Let’s not mince words, 2020 was an awful year. Outside of the super rich people who gained billions more while normal people were forced to deal the full brunt of a deadly pandemic anyone would agree. The one thing 2020 was good for was consuming media. Yes if it weren’t for Television shows, video games, and movies we all probably would have gone stir crazy, well stir crazier than most of us have already gone. So over the next few days I’ll be chronicling the media that got me through 2020. First Up Video Games.
Video Games: The Last of Us Franchise
I started my journey through the fascinating but morbid world created by Naughty Dog years ago on the PS3. However in the middle of my playthrough I noticed a deal at Gamestop offering $200 off a PS4 if you trade in a PS3. So I went to my local Gamestop, which is no longer open in present day of course, and traded my PS3 in for a PS4 with a The Last of Us digital copy included. I rushed home, downloaded the game and for some reason just never played it. Instead I listened to my friends and family implore me to finish the game, but having to play through what I already played through seemed like such a large task that it formed a mental block.

Static Shock and Batgirl Will Both Get Movies on HBO Max
We finally have some more news on the Static Shock and Batgirl films at Warner Brothers! In an interview with the New York Times Warner Brothers president Walter Hamada said that a Static Shock film with producer Michael B. Jordan, and a Batgirl film previously being worked on by Joss Whedon but now being written by Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson would both be coming to HBO Max.
If you’re like me you grew up watching the Saturday morning cartoon version of Static Shock voiced by Phil LaMarr which ran from 2000-2004. But Static has been around since 1993 first appearing in Static issue #1. Virgil Ovid Hawkins was exposed to radioactive chemicals giving him his electricity based powers. During his time in DC comics Static has fought alongside the Teen Titans, Young Justice, and the Justice League.

Looking Back at Thirteen Years On Youtube and Forward to What's Next
On January 13th, 2018 we uploaded our first video to Wicked Good Everything. The channel was a culmination of months of planning and years of experience. Three years may not seem like a long time on the internet, and in truth it isn’t. However our youtube journey extends all the way back to November 2008 when Tamur and I uploaded a bad quality “Spoof” of Star Wars featuring Tamur and our friend Eric settling a disagreement via lightsabers. What always gets me about this video is the watermark plastered in the middle of the screen. Times were tough in terms of understanding technology and the only way we could edit was on a Macs, but we had to dump my camera footage onto a PC then use Flip4Mac to convert it to a file our Macs would recognize.

Star Wars is Following In Marvel Studios' Footsteps and That's a Good Thing
Spoiler warning for The Mandalorian Season 2
When Disney+ launched so did the ambitious Star Wars TV Show The Mandalorian. After two seasons, the story of Din Djarin and Grogu (Better known as Baby Yoda) has become a bona fide hit. A hit that was much needed after the middling offerings of The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.
Season 2 of The Mandalorian reintroduced beloved characters such as the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson), Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) a leader of a Mandalorian group called the Nite Owls, Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamil) himself. while bringing back Cara Dune (Gina Carano) Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and Mayfeld (Bill Burr) from season one. These memorable and fun cast members really worked to make the series feel like a living and breathing world, intertwining with the original story while telling it’s own.

From Lawsuits to Angry Gamers How Cyberpunk 2077 Cost CD Projekt Red Their Reputation
This blog post is a few weeks too late, but every time I went to write it another new crazy development emerged. I think that things have finally settled down enough to try and cover the launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
First announced in 2012, it was in 2013 that the public was treated to a teaser trailer for a mysterious new game by CD Projekt Red, creators of the hugely popular Witcher video game adaptations. The game was of course Cyberpunk 2077, since that time the hype grew to a level that any game would have trouble delivering on. Fortunately for the Polish developer and gamers at large the game would be met with a decent critical reception. Currently the game sits at 86 percent on Metacritic.
